Lewis Carroll

Author of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass lived and worked in Guildford. He is buried in the Mount Cemetery in Guildford.




The Stranglers

Also briefly known as "The Guildford Stranglers" were based in the town in the early 1970s.

Terry Jones

Of Monty Python fame went to The Royal Grammar School between 1953-61.

Edward Carpenter

The gay, socialist poet and activist also lived in Guildford after the First World War. He is also buried in Mount Cemetery. He was instrumental in the founding of the Labour Party.



Edward Kelsey

The actor who plays Joe Grundy in the Archers worked in Guildford and still lives in the area.

Ford Prefect

The character from The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy who claimed to be from Guildford, but was from "from a small planet somewhere in the vicinity of Betelgeuse"!
